Chronologies and Timelines

Many people consider "history" and events in the "past" to be the same thing. Although they are related, they are not, in fact, the same. "History" is our understanding of events in the past, one that gives order and structure to the past by making connections between certain events and not others. One way to see this process of connection is to make a chronology -- a list of related events - or build a timeline that links specific historical events/dates that have a common rubric.
